It was some of the Haibane Renmei artwork that attracted me to this page, but I found that I really liked naotan's style. The style has some of that every-day quiet and simple feel that i'm so fond of. My favorite piece of art is actually an astonishingly beautiful peice of two characters at a picnic table (n_oekaki004). Lovely stuff.

This is a very interesting site, the illustration style is very sketchy, soft, and there is something quite adorable about most of the characters drawn. Caution, there is quite a bit of soft H artwork on this site. I think a lot of the work here is free-sketched and random, which ads to it's charm. There is also a lot of interesting costuming.

Hyoi's House Leaves
Hyoi's House Leaves
by Hyoi
Reccomended by Asmodeus as one of his favorite sites, most of the work on this site are short manga panels, some of the comic party ones are a real hoot. The cutest comic on the site is a Kanon comic with a young Ayu and Yuuichi at a UFO catcher machine. ^^;; Hyoi has worked on many successful print comics, including DNA's Kanon Anthology Comic. Excelent site, a lot to see.

Chisato Naruse's web site
This website has been around for a while, and it's one of my favorites. All navagation is in english, so it's easy to find your way around. There is a wonderful range of colored works on this site (cn_23.jpg is my favorite). There is something very calm about her illustration style (I wish mine was refined (sigh)). Lots of nice work on this site, including some interesting pictures of japan's coastline.

adorably cute art, all of Primavera's art has a lot of character and spunk to it. My fave image so far isn't actually in the gallery, it's on the front page - just a cute, natural image. Navigation is in english, so it's pretty easy to move around.

Kanon/Air/To Heart inspired webcomics are quite common in Japan, and this is one of the better ones. (there is a link to 'manga' where you can find them. Oddly enough, the site is also an excelent resource for photographs and pictures of trains in and around Japan. Navagation is fairly easy, and the manga stuff is worth flipping thru even if you don't understand what's going on.

This is a beautiful, warm site. Navigation is in english, so it's easy to find stuff. Muted, fall-like scenes, soft colors - it reminds me of scenes that could be placed in either Snow Sugar or Shamanic Princess - soft, Germanic townscapes. My favorite in the gallery is actually not one of the ones with the soft painting technique, but this real nice image with muted warm colors (霜月茶店 is the image). Also, some of the stuff in the second section of the gallery that has some really wonderful watercolor techniques (image 1011 in particular).

wakaho's character drawings are tall, angular, and have an oddly comfortable feel to them. Site navigation is in english, so its not a hard site to navigate. My favorite image is #007, This is a really neat site. Dark and almost gothy in nature, i dunno why, its just a really neat image and has a fascinating mood to it.

N-dash has some really nice work on this page. The characters all have very natural poses, and the coloring is very effective. When you get to the main page, click on ギャラリー to get to the artworks. I particularly like some of the uncolored sketches. There's a very quiet and cosy drawing of a couple sipping tea that is very cute.

Nakahara Ichirou illustration gallery
One of those stunning pages that makes me want to forget drawing completely. His characters all have wonderul expressions and a sense of depth to each painting. I have trouble choosing a favorite on his site, but if i had t pick it would be 'rabbit' - click on 'illustrations' and it's one of the latest images - illust46.html is the page to look for (she's got rabbit ears). Most of his images have a slight fantasy theme to them, and tend to involve natural backgrounds like woods and trees. His coloring style has a wonderful glow to it. The site itself is easy to navigate and beautifully laid out. There are some wonderful how-to sections (in japanese) for photoshop and illustrator. There is also a section of wallpapers (kabegami).

Roughly translated as 'Vast Sky Wind', Arase-san's CG art style is very clean and well detailed. Most of the art follows the theme of angel-like girls with wings (particularly in the 'tsubasa hime' or 'winged princess' section). There are some winged girls who have red wings... a pretty potent image. I am particluarly fond of the image reached going into the site, clicking on 'illustration', full color CD 2000, and the latest image (sf_e42.html) - she has a '42' on her armband. The expression on her face says it all.

Tabanakuru

Takahiro Awatake's Web Page
A very deep, facinating, and beautiful site, Tabanakuru has inspired me on many levels. Awatake-san's artwork reminds me of Miyazaki's work - mysterious, fanciful, filled with odd flying machines, monsters and bizarre landscapes. The artwork is lightly colored or black and white - his characters tend to come from a simpler civilization, primitive even. The manga works are a joy to view, even if you dont follow the Japanese. There is plenty of english scattered about the site to enable you to find your way around.
